Gadi Elimelech – Israel’s aspiring fashion designer

I love travelling through Holly land. Israel is such an amazing country with so much to offer – ancient history, religion, amazing food and breath-taking landscapes. I always try to educate myself about the culture where I am and eat only local foods, drink local wine and buy things made by local designers and craftsmen.

According to Glamour magazine “Artists anywhere take inspiration from the culture around them—and Israeli designers are no different. In addition to sourcing inspiration from the country’s typography—the icy blue of the Dead Sea, the ancient architecture and ruins in Jerusalem—designers say, through their work, they hope to show the joy and beauty of their country, rather than the conflict that often makes international headlines”.

During Tel Aviv Fashion week in 2016 there were primary colours, pastel hues, and loads of prints.”It’s not so easy…but we live here and we love Israel and we work here,” says designer Gadi Elimelech who launched his career 20 years ago as a stylist and only recently delved into design with a collection of his own. His dream is to show in Paris eventually. “Step by step, we’ll get there.”

Many Israeli designers look at former Lanvin’s Creative Director Alber Elbaz, (who is a native of Israel), as an inspiration. According to glossy magazines Elbaz is one of the world’s top designers who, before Lanvin, helmed the creative vision for many top brands, including Guy Laroche and Yves Saint Laurent, prior to Tom Ford. Gadi Elimelech thinks that Israeli designers can offer a unique and fresh vision. Gadi is one of the leading stylists in the field , his work includes productions for television, movies, magazines, and personal styling for leading artists and celebrities.

Gadi’s fashion collection draws inspiration from the realm of romance and the soft femininity of the1920’s and from the bohemian chic of the 1970’s. The collection consists of Maxi and mini dresses and loose shirts, with emphasis on the small details around the cleavage.  The collection embodies the long experience of Gadi Elimelech as a stylist for women of all sizes. The designs reflect his understanding of how a woman should look like in 2011. The Fabrics, never elastic, caress the body, which is the basis for any right and flattering look. Lets explore the collection together.
