In my opinion, the modern woman’s business style has not just evolved over the decades, it became the reflection of many things, including fashion trends, economy performance, world events, and of course personal characteristics and emotional state of mind. We also have other forces that influence and dictate the style such as pop culture, designers in the spotlight, cultural and ethnic impact, and social media phenomenon. Today, you can see that business tyle is not what its used to be: monotone suit with pants and a white collar. Today’s women are bold, fearless, confident, and accessorised.
In the past five years I have been experiencing with my business style in many ways: trying on bright colours and new fabrics, polishing my look with the right shoe hill size, colour combinations, or my dress length. In a way, I was pushing the boundaries and testing the corporate world awaiting for reaction. I think I could say now, that I started a mini revolution in my office and I am proud to influence women to reconsider the dress code.
One of the mistakes that many businesswomen may is thinking that if they make enough money and if they have achieved a significant milestone in their career, they don’t have to dress up. However, the fact is style is a very important element of success, and dressing up properly and nicely for every day work will help to secure business transactions more then anything else. And there are two elements of why this works: first, you feel more confident when you are polished off. Second, your business partners will take you seriously and will have more respect for you. And I am happy to share my philosophy on how to push the boundaries in your business fashion world.
Below is my Top 5 tips:
2. Experimental lengths like capris, shorter skirts and dresses, even business style shorts are also possible if you are fit enough. Don’t hesitate to show off your legs, especially in a summer. In this case, I would only suggest to make sure your top compensates for the length. It has to create a balance in your outfit. If your top will show too much skin, you will look vulgar and inappropriate for the corporate setting.
3. Modern day business style still presupposes the touches of classic style, thus including black colour in your outfit is always a good idea. For me, everyday business look is a diversity of colours and tones, correctly matched with each other. Bright, floral print would look stunning with classic pencil skirt.
4. You can always express femininity and a bit of romance through monotone and classic images and soft fabrics like lace and silk. My suggestion is to pick a classic white blouse that with no doubt will make you look irresistible, confident and elegant.
5. Shoes is a very important component of your business dress code. Heels of medium height, more preferably of solid colour would perfectly complete the elegant look. Avoid platforms, ultra high hills, bright details and decorations. It doesn’t mean that shoes can not be fashionable, they can be. So, if you are wearing killer hills, make sure it doesn’t interfere with your whole outfit ensemble, its best to wear a simple black dress, this way, your shoes will stand out and balance out the image.
