The most glamorous film festival is over. Its time to look at winners and celebrate the success. CNN reports: “French filmmaker Jacques Audiard took home the Palme d’Or for “Dheepan,” a crime drama about a Sri Lankan Tamil warrior who flees to France. Silver the Grand Prix award went to Laszlo Nemes’ “Son of Saul.” And the award considered the third prize of the film festival, the Prix Du Jury, was won by Yorgos Lanthimos for “The Lobster.”
Accoridng to The Guirdian “Jacques Audiard has made his name, in films such as A Prophet, Rust & Bone and The Beat That My Heart Skipped, for a kind of ecstatic violence of the soul. Dheepan, his new film about a former Tamil Tiger fighter looking for a new life in France, certainly has some of the director’s trademark ferocity, especially in its final minutes”. This emotional drama/thriller is about new chances, social issues in France for the roughest neighbourhoods with gangs and immigrants, an dits about adapting, and fitting in. A former soldier escaped civil war in Sri Lanka, together with a young woman and a little girl they pretend to be a family, so they can immigrate to France. They try to start a new life together in tough conditions.
