Snug-as-a-Bug Runway Looks Inspired by Rugs

Sandra Milo in Vanina Vanini (1961)

Not coincidentally, Morocco, with its rich tradition of carpet-making, was the Edenic starting point of Natacha Ramsay-Levi’s “New Age boho” collection at Chloé. She wasn’t the only one who was dreaming of the sun-kissed North African country, not by far, but at Fendi Karl Lagerfeld took a different tack; opting to time-travel, he landed on a Deco-ish parrot-patterned carpet that he transformed into a chirpy print. Meanwhile in the Nordics, where winter starts early and stays late, staying in—stylishly—has become an art. It’s no surprise that Totême’s Elin Kling and Karl Lindman found inspiration close to home, in the work of Swedish rug designer Märta Måås-Fjetterström.
